Today's blog post is brought to you by the Strong Athlete. It is a training facility based out of Toronto and I had the privilege of listening to them 2 years ago at a workshop in Toronto.
They work with everyone from top athletes to the average person and I truly respect their knowledge around training and nutrition.
Today's blog post is about sports drinks and other energy drinks that are basically a chemical cococktion that 1000's of adults and kids drink everyday and I am telling you to stop it!
Keep ready to learn why...
Anyone who has ever worked with me knows my opinion on these so-called "sports" drinks on the market today such as Gatorade.
And if you don't know, my opinion is that it's absolute garbage and borderline toxic!
Most of these drinks use unhealthy sugars, dangerous artificial colours and even artificial sweeteners such as sucralose that are classified by many health experts as neurotoxins.
What's a neurotoxin?
Neurotoxins are toxins that are potentially poisonous or destructive to nerve tissue (causing neurotoxicity) which can lead to nerve development issues, decrease your focus and negatively affect your performance!!
It makes me so sad when I see all the kids drinking these toxic drinks at arenas, baseball diamonds, fields, and even at school.
Unfortunately, most people don't realize the dangers of these products and this time of year when lots of sports get rolling I feel that it is important to provide a better, healthy alternative.
I'm sure I've shared this before at some point and if you haven't tried it yet you need to start!
My Homemade Rehydration Drink
8-10 oz of fresh spring water (tap water is just as toxic as these sport drinks)
2-4 oz of organic coconut water (with no added sugar)
1-2 dashes of organic himalayan salt (you can switch it up with organic sea salt as well)
1/2 fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 tsp. raw honey
Mix it all together and enjoy the hell out of it! :)
I like to make mine in the VitaMix but a good shaker cup will do the job just fine,
So please stop drinking these garbage so-called sports drinks, and that includes these even more toxic "energy drinks" as well.
And most of all, please please STOP giving them to your kids – contrary to the fancy advertising promises, it will not make them better athletes.
